My "Racing"

Running

In 2017 I raced just 3 events. In Feb, just down the road, I won the V35 Bucks 10k Champs for the second year running, finishing 3rd lady overall and 2nd lady in Bucks. In March I raced the first Ridge Off Roader half marathon (and my first ever half). This was a fantastic course in gritty conditions. I managed to clinch 2nd woman and was really pleased with that for my first time at the distance. In October I won the women's category at the Buckingham 10k. This was my fourth win at this event. This year I was also at the sharp end of the main race, finishing 5th overall.

2016

On Sunday 7th August I raced a bike for the first time in 3 years (and the second time in 7 years!), coming out of retirement for one day to ride in the National Women's Masters' Road Race Championships. The course goes by my house and so, five week's ago, I decided to dust off my cycling things and work about transferring my running fitness to the bike. I have had lots of fun this past few weeks as my cycling legs have gradually come back to life. The aim was to complete at least half of the 60 mile event within the bunch. I bettered that by hanging in the main / lead peleton for the full race, finishing mid bunch in the final gallop. My 12 year old steed worked well (I did procure my husband's super duper wheels for the day, to which he had to fit my 9sped block!) and I was pleased to find that my bike handling skills remained as sharp as they ever were. Circuit knowledge was also undoubtedly a great help! It was a great event, lovely to race, with some classy girls and perfect organisation. Many thanks to all those who worked so hard to deliver the event. Now I am back in cycling retirement!

2016 Running Events Report

I ran 7 events in 2016, finishing 1st FV40 in each of them, 1st F overall in two and 2nd F overall in most of the others. In Feb I ran the Winslow 10k, finishing in a time of 40.30. I then ventured off road in April for two events, the Aldbury Cross Country 5.3miler, where I was 2nd to GB 2012 Olympian Claire Hallissey, having her in view for most of the race. The following week I returned to the Ridge Off Roader where I was 2nd female finisher, racing shoulder to shoulder all the way to the final climb where I was out run. On a positive note, we were running much further up the main field compared with my run last year (where I was 1st female), finishing 13th overall. In June I won the Watlington XX XC event, finishing 5th against the men. This was a fantastic event, with almost 800ft of steep climbing and some good technical descents. I was just over a minute off the course record which I'll have my eye on next time! In August I clinched the V35 Bucks 10k title at the Bearbrook 10k, with a time of 39.45. In September I won the Bucks V35 Long Road Race title at the Leighton Buzzard 10 mile race. Finally I rounded out the year with a win at the Buckingham 10k.
